Times Square at Huaihai Zhonglu

economy - Another retailer bites the dust

Being in Shanghai is not just enough and the city has had its share of high-end retail disasters. The Superbrand Mall in Pudong was ofcourse a mistake that nobody could understand. Shanghai is not yet like the US where people would go to the malls, the malls will have to come to the people.
All roads lead to China explains that the building was at least one block away from the shopping audience and that was to much. I had heard already that the supermarket would close down, but now Lane Crawford is also backing out.
I have passed the building very often on my way to the office and it is a very sad sight. Only when it is raining very heavily it would be busy since part of your road was then covered.
There are still a few other shopping malls in the danger zone, like CITIC-plaza at Nanjing Road. But since the Westside of Nanjing Road is picking up quite a lot, they might benefit from it too.
