Gao Qinrong

media - An released journalist: jailed but not beaten

Eight years ago this journalist got a 12-year jail sentence, because he blew the whistle on a corruption scandal. The China Digital Times summerizes his case here.
Good to see that the Chinese media and the bloggers are also taking up his case again:
Now Google Gao in Chinese. Reams of fresh material pop up, making Gao a cause celebre for expanded media supervision and free expression in China.
Southern Weekend and Southern Metropolis Daily published one-on-one interviews with Gao on Thursday, and news portals like Sohu have packaged those together with online commentaries and snapshots of similar cases. This from the Gudengtubi blogger’s piece on Jiangsu Online, which was picked up widely : "Why must a reporter, just for speaking a bit of truth, pay the price of freedom, reputation, family, and even life?"

More at the China Digital Times.
Update: More also at Danwei and ESWN. China Digital Times reports that the censor has banned all stories on Gao in the media and on internet.
