internet - It is official: Baidu manipulates

China Web2.0 Review summerizes the consternation that occured as Peter Wang, branding director of China's leading search engine Baidu, discussed by email with his bosses how to manipulate the rankings of Sohu and Sina, as a punishment for their negative reporting on Baidu.
The email leaked out, Wang had to resign and everybody seems to be surprised. I wonder why, since we all knew Baidu was doing this - and we only hope Google is not doing it too obvious. It suggests that many internet users do not know they are being manipulated and might actually care.
Baidu manipulates search results for its own sakes, will Google benefit from its more reliable results? However, according to a latest research reports by iResearch, Baidu’s market share still keeps increasing.
And the domestic researchers would not dare to publish negative reports about Baidu: they are not so crazy they would be honest, would they?
