internet - Transportation card got cheaper
Marc van der Chijs was the first one to note it: our complaints about the 30 Renminbi deposit we have to pay for a public transport card had effect: the price went down to 20 Renminbi. He also notes that - apart from qualifying it as a normal business practise - the total of the deposits in the hands of this company is much higher, since people put sometimes quite a lot of money on these cards. In the subways you can read how much money people still have on their cards and sometimes that amounts to hundreds of Renminbi.
Now, most other subway systems in the world have a way to partly compensate loyal users who pay in advance: they get their trips slightly cheaper. Would that not be a nice move that would put Shanghai in line with international business practises. Make the trip cheapers for the people who have a transportation card. That should not be a problem, considering the advanced systems Shanghai is using.
