internet - Tencent marches on

Virtual China points at the newly released top-3 players in the different internet fields in 2006. QQ's operator Tencent has been marching on, a trend we noted earlier. Here are the figures:
portalsblog: Sina 55%; Netease 51%; Tencent 48%
sites: Sina 33%; Qzone 19%; MSN 16%
IM: QQ 79%; MSN 34%; Sina UC 11%
search: Baidu 81%; Google 36%; Yahoo 26%
car sites: Sina Auto 17%; Sohu Auto 12%; Pacific Auto 11%
games: QQ 37%; Lianqun/Ourgame 20%; Shanda 20%
podcast/video sharing: Toodou 10%; Yoqoo 9%; Mofile 9%C2C
auctions: Taobao 55%; eBay 37%; Paipai 20%
mapping services: Baidu 33%; China e-Map 中国电子地图网 19%; Go2Map 图行天下 11%

Tencent has kicked out Sina(sorry: Sohu) from the top-3 in the portals and has strong positions in IM, of course, and games. Now when you look at the differences it seems very obvious where Tencent will attack next: the podcast/videosharing segment. Even the largest player Tudou has only a ten percent of the market and it would be harder to make such a move in the markets for searches or auctions, where there are already strong and dominant players.
