Virtual China points at the newly released top-3 players in the different internet fields in 2006. QQ's operator Tencent has been marching on, a trend we noted earlier. Here are the figures:
portalsblog: Sina 55%; Netease 51%; Tencent 48%Tencent has kicked out Sina(sorry: Sohu) from the top-3 in the portals and has strong positions in IM, of course, and games. Now when you look at the differences it seems very obvious where Tencent will attack next: the podcast/videosharing segment. Even the largest player Tudou has only a ten percent of the market and it would be harder to make such a move in the markets for searches or auctions, where there are already strong and dominant players.
sites: Sina 33%; Qzone 19%; MSN 16%
