Wang Xiaofeng

media - "I want money, fame and attention"

Wang Xiaofeng tells his version of the story how he became "man of the year" in Time magazine, representing 135 million online citizens. (Here in a translation by Raymond Zhou, h/t to Global Voices). Here is what he told the chief-editor:
"I want fame, money and attention. Why don't I want to get on a Chinese magazine? Anyone can be covered by a Chinese magazine, but Time is different. Only Chinese politicians piqued your interest. I want to try, and now I've got to know you," I said.
It is a hilarious enough story, although there are some lose ends that suggests Wang has used more his fantasy than his memory. For the article is was interviewed and put on a picture, so he must have known he would be in the magazine.
