Isaac Mao

internet - Isaac's ten little golden piglets

Today I had lunch with VC Isaac Mao, who had a bit of a hectic weekend after he published on Friday an open letter to the Google-founders with suggestions to save their company in China. As expected, many bloggers took up the issue.
"I published it by purpose on Friday, since most of the big media are then on leave," Isaac grins. "I would rather let the internet speak first."
Isaac works as a VC and he knows what he talks about when he suggests Google to set up a one billion USD development fund to invest in China's internet. His company has been doing very well last year, because of their participation in Focus Media and they are now expanding their scope. But, Isaac said, in most cases it is very hard to get supply and demand together.
"There is enough money floating around in China, but those who have it are poorly organized," he says. The US capital is better organized, but they also have a hard time to find those companies where they want to invest in. And Isaac know there are loads of companies, sometimes very good companies, who cannot get funding.
He is now taking care of a group of ten smaller technology firms that have developed their own nifty software and start to look for an international market, now they have tested it in China. One of them is Anothr.com, a new way to work with RSS-feeds.
I will have over the holidays a go at this one, and possibly a few others and review them. I you want do add your bit, please do not hesitate.

Update: Almost did it again. Of course I invited Isaac to join our China Speakers' Bureau and I'm happy to report that he accepted. If you are interested in booking Isaac for a key note speech, a seminar or otherwise, do drop an email at my headquarters of get in touch with me directly.
