I just walked by accident into Shanghaistuff, a relatively new (I had not yet seen any links to it) localized social medium in English. It has brethren and sisters in Beijing, Shenzhen and Guangzhou.
Traffic and the number of participants is still fairly low, but then it has only been starting, as I assume. It looks like perfect online competition for the websites of print magazines in the city. I will keep an eye on it to see how it develops.
