Why Best Buy is not best in China

Pissing off your best customers is traditionally the worst way to perform in any economic activity. The US retailer Best Buy moved into Shanghai with the promise they would outperform the traditional small scale retailers of electronics goods in Shanghai. That has been a rather short lived promise.
Marc van der Chijs tells the story of hist latest purchase at the Best Buy shop and was sent home with a second-hand camera.
The biggest problem is that most of their products seem to be always out of stock - even when there is no sign saying the product is not available anymore.
When he goes back to complain, things go from bad to worse. In other places you would be making sure you would not be cheated, but now Best Buy shares the same mistrust with ordinary Chinese shops.
