When journalists outside China ask me how to make a living as a journalist, I mostly advise them to stay home. To make my point I tell them that the going rate for English-language journalist is about one Renminbi per word (0.1 euro).
I just received a job add from Danwei, where a third party offers the sensational compensation of 0.5 Renminbi per word.
Wages in China are in general moving up, but unfortunately, that is not true for every industry. The more desperate foreign journalists are hanging around, the faster the fees drop. And the quality of course, but who cares about that?
