Sometimes, things not happening can be as telling in China as those things that happen. I was watching yesterday the news of the Dutch trade union who went after the Dutch government in a major way. Then, I realized I had not heard of their Chinese colleagues of the ACFTU for weeks. It was very similar to the weeks ahead of the 17th Party Conference when this trade union was eradicated from the media radar screen.
Now, weeks ahead of the National People's Congress in March, the ACFTU is gone again from the media and did not appear on my radar screen for a long time. I guess they still not fit in the concept of a harmonious society well enough to make their point also during political more sensitive times. Quite different from their European colleagues.
