A China homepage at the New York Times
The New York Times has already amazed me more often in a positive way with their online activities and they might just have gotten another system in place - at least I discovered it - that might be useful for some of my readers, a rather comprehensive China-page.
One of the nice things at the internet is that you can develop a rather solid "radar screen" to monitor who is linking to your sites. Suddenly, I saw a spike in the links coming from the New York Times, and that triggered my interest. I'm not daily quoted in or linked from the New York Times, so I had a look and saw their China-page was linking to the China Herald, from their aggregator.
I believe that in the end, portal-like systems will have a limited life-span: my online searches mostly go through search engines, rss-feeds and other online gadgets. But there is still a large audience outside the digital vanguard that might actually enjoy this comprehensive way of framing foreign news.
