Olympic shutdowns in Beijing, Shanghai, Tianjin
AllRoadsleadtoChina notes this unconfirmed but very likely story: manufacturers in Beijing, Shanghai and Tianjin might have to cease operations to guarantee a good environment during the 2008 Olympics. It will - when true - most likely not be an all-out shutdown, but focused on the bad guys in the manufacturing industry.

I wonder if the frenzy over rectifying the air quality and environmental conditions in China is feasible in months time. Sure, awareness and government action will bring about some change, but I think this should have been taken into consideration throughout the process of preparing for the event.
I know that some aspects of the buildings constructed for the Olympics are meant to be environmentally friendly, but it seems that the idea of being green is only for show. (creating a mish-mash crisscross of steel rods can not be beneficial for the environment, despite its supposed green ways)
