by dragonpreneur via FlickrEvery day a few new groups report problems related to the new visa policies in China - like for example the Heineken House. Today I get some feedback from an organization who had recruited foreign students as volunteers for corporate and sport events at the Beijing Olympics. Those students are now forced to leave, as X-visas are not being extended during the summer.
In theory they could fly home (something they might have to do now anyway), fetch a visa in their home country - supported by invitations and 'confirmations' by friendly hotels - and fly back. Problem is that the visa would only last for 30 days, and the Olympics six weeks. But that would be an extremely expensive solution and I guess that a lot of the fun would be gone for all participants.
The organization I talked to had no understanding at all for the way "China" is managing this affair. I guess most Chinese organizations and government departments might agree, only it will be too late for a change in the visa policies.

If you want, feel free to contact me. I am on a long term Z and will be here for the Olympics.I can volunteer (speak German, English, and decent putonghua). My email is iprlawshanghai@gmail.com
Thanks for sharing our photo of people displaying the 3 finger "Peace Plus One" Sustainability Symbol in your blog... many volunteers at the Olympics are now sharing the optimism and responsibility of Thinking Three Ways - balancing Society, the Environment and Economy.
As a foreign volunteer, I find our Chinese hosts very receptive to becoming part of the solution to Global Warming, Climate Change, Pollution and Social Inequity.
