A Swedish arbitration court has rejected one of the key claims of the French dairy product firm Danone against its former Chinese partner Wahaha from Hangzhou, writes Bloomberg. Danone is conducting 25 court cases in five countries against Wahaha and the Swedish verdicts is seen as a severe setback for Danone. Danone wanted to stop Wahaha from further expanding under its brand name.
Danone, based in Paris, has accused the Chinese company of illegally selling Wahaha-brand drinks outside their venture and is involved in at least 25 lawsuits and arbitration proceedings in five countries with Wahaha and its founder, Zong Qinghou.
In Sweden, the tribunal also rejected the French company's claim that any goods produced by Wahaha must be sold through the venture.
