internet - Why do I still get all the Google services?

Now, I'm not complaining here. I just arrived back late this evening after a day on the road and realized that despite the overall disruption of the internet in China because of the earthquake of Tuesday, I'm still getting my Google-services loud and clear, including the non-censored Google News.
Other services like Yahoo I cannot got and also the lack of MSN-access must drive many Chinese internet junks crazy.
Now, why do I get my Gmail, my Gtalk, blogger.com, my Google Reader, my Google News, Adsense, the Google Blog search and some other services I might forget as easy as the Shanghai Daily? I always thought that, unlike Yahoo, Google had especially its servers with sensitive email outside China to prevent interference from the Chinese authorities, eager to jail another journalist - as happenend in the case of Yahoo with Shi Tao.
My weblog is still working, I realize, and that is not hosted by Google. So, some get through, others not. I'm sitting next to somebody else in the same room on a dial-up who cannot get anything although she is using an expensive corporate system.
I'm confused: anybody who can explain the irrational workings of the internet?
