No panic, it is not the internet censor who stops you from viewing your favorite websites this morning, but most likely yesterday's earthquake near to Taiwan. Reports suggest that internet traffic in large parts of Asia are disrupted. At this stage about 50 percent of my traffic seems to be affected, so I can still do my email and update my weblog, but many website are inaccessible.
Emailed reports suggest Indonesia, mainland China, Hong Kong, Singapore and Thailand.
Reuters confirms the report:
"(Six) submarine cables are not working due to the earthquake near Taiwan. We are making best efforts to restore the service in a speedy manner," the company said in a statement to Reuters.
