media - The irrelevance of the SCMP (again) illustrated

Rebecca MacKinnon describes how - even if the South China Morning Post has a scoop - nobody outside Hong Kong will notice. The SCMP was the first to publish the open letter three lawyers wrote to Sina.com about its censorship.
ESWN brought the translation after the SCMP, but since nobody on the internet can link to the Hong Kong paper, their story lost their relevance. Says assistant journalism professor Rebecca:
Joining the worldwide online conversation - from which they have so far excluded themselves - is good for the SCMP's business and brand in the long run, I believe. Especially since, as I understand, their online paid subscriptions have hit a plateau and are not expected to grow substantially.
