Inflation hitting consumer markets hard - Shaun Rein

Shaun Rein

Our speakers are today very busy working with the media and on the internet to get their word out. Just now I listen to an interview with Shaun Rein on Danwei-FM, the radio station of Danwei.
Shaun makes, as usual a lot of sense as he talks about the effects of inflation. "Inflation is becoming a real issue," he says, as pork and eggs are becoming rapidly expensive products for the larger part of the population that is still earning less than US$ 200 per month.
The process of rising prices for raw material, energy and so on is already going on for a few years, he says, but companies have not transferred those increases to the customers, so it did not have too much effect on the retail level. As margins will continue to be erased the mass consumer market might become increasingly unattractive for the foreign companies, who will have a hard time to compete with domestic enterprises.
