Business analyst Shaun Rein comments at the BBC World Service at the launch of the world's largest high-speed train connection between Beijing and Guangzhou: a symbol of the new policies focusing on improving consumption and urbanization.
BBC Worldservice:
Shaun Rein sees the aggressive plans to roll out high-speed train connection in China as an element of the new policies of the new president Xi Jinping to push ahead with urbanization and domestic consumption. Air flights are suffering from major delays, because of bad weather and military involvement on the air space, making the high-speed train a viable competitor. China expects to expand its high-speed train network with 500 percent in the next seven years.
